Harriet (Schrom) Edel age 90, of Kilkenny, Minnesota passed away peacefully on Sunday December 29, 2024, at The Moments; Memory Care & Enhanced Assisted Living in Lakeville, Minnesota.
Harriet was born in Owatonna on September 20, 1934, to Edward and Roselyn (Spindler) Schrom. Harriet was the beloved wife of Harvey J. Edel. They were married on May 14, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Owatonna, Minnesota. Harriet was a dedicated wife and mother raising three children on their farm in Kilkenny, Minnesota. They had been married for 63 years at the time of Harvey’s death on September 6, 2020. She was a member of the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and Council of Catholic Women (CCW) in Montgomery, Minnesota. In her later years she treasured traveling aboard and one of her spiritual destinations was the Holy Land Pilgrimage renewing their wedding vows around the area of the Sea of Galilee.
She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary #5340, and the Rice County Pork Producers. She proudly accepted the honor of owning and operating a Century Farm in 2014, which was a worthy achievement for their continuous family ownership of at least 100 years of raising dairy and beef cattle, hogs, poultry, and crops.
Harriet had a passion for cooking, baking, gardening, bookkeeping, dancing and listening to polka music, and playing cards. Harriet loved to share with family and friends her canning and preserving of hundreds of quarts of fruits and vegetables. Her grandchildren said she made the best homemade ketchup. Her happiness went far in preparing meals for family bonding and memorable gatherings. Because of her meticulous character she took pride in her daily duties. She was highly sociable, being able to visit and listen to everyone. She valued her family, friends and local community. Harriet’s faith in her Lord and Savior led her to be compassionate and caring for all others. She will be remembered for her (Fruits of the Spirit) love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness.
She is survived by her children; Kevin (son) and Beth Edel of Chandler, AZ. Kim (daughter) and Terry Mosel of Page, NE, Karla (daughter) Janovsky of Montgomery and friend Craig Benson. Grandchildren: Sheena Edel, Courtney (Edel) and Cole Swearingen, Shelby (Edel) and Cameron Irwin; Amos Mosel, Caleb and Genny Mosel, Luke and Tiffany Mosel, Lindy (Mosel) and EJ Flynn, Mark Mosel and Simeon and Abby Mosel, Kelsey (Janovsky) and Brandon Dickison, Jesse and Nikole Janovsky and 19 great - grandchildren. Brother; Craig Schrom, sister – in laws; Maxine Schrom, Cathy Schrom Ehler, Kathy Schrom and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey J. Edel, parents Edward and Roselyn Schrom, sisters; Marcella Jeno, Audrey Hrdlichka, brothers; Norbert Schrom, and Roger Schrom.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Fr. Timothy Sandquist as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Trebon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home with a rosary beginning at 4:00 PM. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the Mass at church with a rosary beginning at 9:15 AM on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are preferred to the donor’s choice.
